Freelance
photographer, based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Vegard Fiskerstrand
is a Norwegian born photographer who has recently completed work as a
Co-Executive Producer and photographer on a current affairs television
series aired on the satellite channel M-Net.
Having grown up in
the small fishing town of Aalesund on the Norwegian west coast, Vegard
started his working life in the fishing industry before embarking on
travels that took him first to Pretoria, South Africa in 1989 where he
worked for the local Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) named the
‘Get-Ahead Foundation’ whose board members included many well respected South
Africans, among them Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Archbishop Emeritus
Desmond Tutu.
Having spent a year in South Africa, Vegard
traveled extensively throughout Asia, Australia, Africa, Europe and the
United States of America. His travels inspired him to learn more about
the world and Vegard enrolled in the London School of Oriental and
African Studies (SOAS), where he undertook a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a
focus on human geography and the Southern African region. Thereafter he
returned to South Africa and enrolled at the University of the
Witwatersrand in Johannesburg where he undertook a Masters degree.
During this time, he also volunteered with the Twilight Children
organization which is dedicated to helping and supporting street
children in the notorious Hillbrow neighbourhood.
In the late
1990’s Vegard moved to Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States of
America where he studied photography at the Atlanta Art Institute.
Atlanta was also where Vegard held his fist photography exhibition
which sold out. He has subsequently held several successful indoor and
outdoor exhibitions in Norway, one of which became a great tourist
attraction.
Vegard has a very intricate knowledge of South
Africa and is able to provide great insight into the planning and
staging of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ which will be hosted by
South Africa.
